I am Writing a detective story for GCSE's cant think of a good plot.?

so far i have got : It was a dark and dreary Autumn night in New York. Inside Phillies diner it was warm, I could hear the sound of the jukebox playing quietly in the background. As I looked outside the rain pattered on the window, making a constant tapping sound. The coffee machine made a whirring noise like the sound of a broken record. The barman laid a hot, steamy coffee on the brown oak bar before me. A man walked in. He was smartly dressed in a top hat and suit; he had a clean-shaven appearance. He sat opposite Jimmy and I. I greeted him with a warm, bright smile. He on the other hand, gave me a cold look, which made my spine shudder. He was suspicious looking but I tried not to notice..... But i dont know where it is going. i dont know anymore of the plot. HELP. PLEASEE

1. Part of being a writer is making your own plot. If you used somebody else's plot---you shouldn't get the credit for it. Sorry :( But---think of real life stories like the one you are writing. Maybe something will inspire you. I have an idea but I don't know if you should use it EXACTLY the way I write it: The Detective sitting in the diner notices the suspicious man(blah...) And then maybe you can have something like a guy walking in an I don't know like shoot the suspicious guy or something. I don't know. Sorry, I'm not in my thinking mood today.
